An energy cooperative is a legal entity that operates based on voluntary and open participation. It is owned and controlled by its members, who can be natural persons, local authorities (including municipalities), or small enterprises.
CECs prioritise community and environmental benefits, engaging in various energy-related activities to promote sustainability, local empowerment, and resilience while providing services that support their members and the local areas in which they operate. Financial profits, while not the primary focus, may be generated to sustain the community’s operations and further support their objectives.
