Km0 and the Girona Provincial Council, as partners of the Reschool project, met with the citizens adhered to the Local Energy Communities of the four pilot municipalities: Amer, La Cellera del Ter, Cornellà de Terri and Rupià to explain the European project and to provide them with the smart meters that should allow the Energy Communities to grow.
The meetings in each of the municipalities were held during the following dates and the attendance was as follows:
- Rupià: 25/04/2024 – 10 attendees.
- Cornellà del Terri: 07/05/2024 – 18 attendees.
- La Cellera del Ter: 13/05/2024 – 12 attendees.
- Wednesday: 21/05/2024 – 10 attendees.
These devices allow the reading of energy consumption data from homes instantaneously. This data will help citizens make the most of the energy received by the installation of the Local Energy Community and will also serve to grow the Energy Communities beyond shared self-consumption.
On the one hand, the citizens who install these meters will be able to see an instant balance of their consumption, as well as the energy received by the installation. With this, participants will be able to move their energy consumption, for example to put the dishwasher or washing machine, depending on the energy received from the installation.
On the other hand, together with the other partners of the project, tests will be carried out asking users to increase or decrease their energy consumption at a specific time slot to see what potential the Communities have to modulate their consumption according to the requirements of the network. This opens the door for Energy Communities to become much more than shared self-consumption.
However, in many cases the on-site assistance of the project partners has been required in order to help users in the installation of these devices, which shows that technological barriers are still very present. This has been facilitated by the specifically produced RESCHOOL factsheet in the Catalan language that explains what the smart meters are and how and why to use them.
